Dr. Catherine Rathman
I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Virginia providing a wide range of psychological services for children, adolescents, and families. I completed my predoctoral internship at the Virginia Treatment Center for Children in the VCU Health System in Richmond, VA and earned my Ph.D. in clinical psychology from The Catholic University of America in 2012. I went on to a residency in clinical psychology within the Psychological Services of the Inova Keller Center in Fairfax, VA.
I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and families dealing with issues such as family conflict, ADHD, autism, anxiety/depression, and behavioral problems. Using a family systems perspective, I strive to understand an individual's functioning within the context of the family as these bonds influence and shape a person throughout their life span. I also have a strong background in cognitive behavior therapy and value the practical benefit of specific interventions to provide support and relief to the individuals and families I work with.
My work at the practice involves conducting psychological and psycho-educational evaluations, often in collaboration with Dr. Carla Messenger, for individuals with a variety of concerns including social, emotional, behavioral, and cognitive difficulties. I also provide admissions testing to children as part of the application process for private and independent schools. My aim is to provide high-quality evidence-based assessments in order to help individuals identify strengths as well as challenges.
